Start a business!

Lillestrøm is a very entrepreneur-friendly municipality, and the rate at which new companies are established here are significantly higher than the Norwegian average. If you have a business idea, there is a free service where you can book 1-1 startup coaching meetings with professional advisors and attend courses. They have introductory courses for English speakers, and you find more valuable info on their website.

When you have a grip on the Norwegian business system, and got your business registered in the Brønnøysund register, a place to work and meet other entrepreneurs can be of great value. At Business Lillestrøm you can rent your own office, your own desk, or a hotdesking spot in a vibrant co-working environment for as little as 1650NOK per month. Being a part of the Business Lillestrøm ecosystem also ensures you are part of a network of not only other entrepreneurs, but also lawyers, investors, business development advisors, and others that will ensure your interests are being taken care of with regards to intellectual property rights, employments, support schemes and other things.

Libraries

The municipality runs six different libraries, and if you haven’t been to one of them, we definitely recommend it – especially the brand new “flagship” library in the city of Lillestrøm, a short walk from the train station. This has become a popular place for authors to come and discuss their new books, other cultural events of all sorts, and participatory workshops for inhabitants – and every Wednesday from 6 pm locals gather here to play chess.

There are also libraries in Fetsund, Frogner, Skedsmokorset, Strømmen and Sørumsand. The service-minded librarians will help you with everything from books and course material on learning Norwegian, finding events that may suit your interests, and even with references and literature lists if you are working on a thesis.
